Charlottetown is Prince Edward Island’s Capital City. Consider us as the hidden gem in Canada New England.
In our seaside city, historic small town charm meets urban flair. Explore our city completely by foot and discover everything from delightful seaside dining to quaint shops, stories of our colorful history and vibrant culture that will immerse you in our heritage. We’re best known as the Birthplace of Confederation referring to the Charlottetown Conference of 1864, discussions which ultimately led to the formation of Canada.
Prince Edward Island is often referred to as the "Garden of the Gulf" due to our pastoral scenery and lush agricultural lands. We’re also the beloved home of Anne of Green Gables, a novel loved by millions around the world.
And if you still can’t place us perhaps you’ve sampled our World Famous PEI Potatoes, Malpeque Oysters, Island Mussels and of course lobster. Many of these Island delicacies can be found on restaurant menus throughout Canada and the United States.
Charlottetown has been welcoming cruise passengers for decades. We recently experienced major growth in the number of cruise ships due to the completion of our new berth and welcome centre. We are now ready to accommodate larger vessels. In 2008 cruise ship visitation grew from 19,000 to 57,326 passengers.
